They all aligned naturally. I started my career as a model at a young age. As I got older and discovered my passions of freediving and environmental science, I slowly introduced them into my life, which bleed into my modelling career.
KitX of corse. Their whole ethos and approach to sustainable fashion aligns with my beliefs. They are a role model brand who strive to create fashion with considered, conscious, circularity concepts in mind. These 3 keystone sustainable concepts have the potential to reverse the negative impacts we are putting onto our oceans and planet at present.
Another project I recently worked on was with Bazaar Australia. I wore a dress created by artist Marina DeBris made completely out of plastic waste washed up onto Sydney’s beaches. Named Overkill, this dress highlights the devastating impacts of plastic pollution and marine waste in and around our oceans as well as the over-the-top throwaway society we live in today.
I have always loved the ocean. Growing up my parents would always take me to the ocean in Sydney or tropical locations like Fiji where I would spend hours swimming and snorkelling. These experiences led me to want to further explore the ocean later in life, where I tried out scuba diving and eventually freediving.
I use my platform as a model to educate and discuss with people environmental conservation concepts and actions that can be taken to positively impact our planet. I also participate in ocean clean ups and bush regeneration programs where I meet wonderful people who are also trying to make a small positive impact on our planet. These programs give me the opportunity to learn from people and expand my knowledge on environmental conservation.
I encourage you all to educate yourself and discuss with friends, loved ones, work colleagues on all things to do with our environment and its conservation. Word of mouth has a great impact and I myself have been influenced by many amazing people working tirelessly to conserve our planet. By communicating, educating and learning we slowly start to implement these ideas and positive actions into our daily life.
